Heinz Erhardt Stele

When walking across one of the biggest crossings in Göttingen, your attention will likely be drawn to a rather stern-looking traffic regulator. It’s actually a plexiglass cutout of actor, comedian, and playwright, Heinz Erhardt, whom the traffic square is named after. 

Both the square and monument are a callback to one of his most famous movies, the 1956 comedy Natürlich die Autofahrer, which was shot in the square. Erhardt played policeman Doberman, who regulated traffic in the square. The stele was constructed in 2003 to honor the actor, who shot around eight films in Göttingen.
